New Year Wellbeing - clear your fridge and clear your mind!

We all know that self-care is key especially in our busy world. However, you can have all the best intentions in the world such as eating healthier, doing regular exercise and losing weight at any time of the year but, if you continue to believe you are not good enough, not confident enough, can’t change or are too stressed to even think about your good intentions, sadly the reality is that nothing is going to change in the positive direction that you want it to. You will remain doing the same habits and experiencing the same possible negative feelings of guilt, frustration, anger, sadness, ashamed every time you do or do not do something!

Why is this?

It’s because the mind and the body are interconnected, so when you want to help your body, particularly improving your gut-health which is key to your energy levels, losing weight and feeling good, you have to help your mind too!

Here’s an example about food cravings

A lady came to see me.  Now 70 years old, she had been having food cravings every day from the age of 4 which undermined her confidence. I explained that she was unable to resist the cravings as she had been emotionally dependent and attached to this emotion since the age of 4 when her brain created the thought that “eating this every day = being and feeling safe.”

Feeling safe is a basic human need so her brain looped this thought around for 66 years to keep her safe. I used several emotional freedom techniques to help her to break the thought loop, to recognise other ways to feel safe and the cravings disappeared. Afterwards she felt free and empowered and found her true voice. Her feedback to me said “I feel as free as a bird and I want to shout it from the rooftops!”Thank you.” Gill from Farnham, Surrey.

This thought loop attachment process is what is happening when you are craving chocolate, wine, sweets, crisps – whatever your go to comfort food or drink is. What you eat is giving you a feeling that you want.

Another issue many people see me for is anxiety and lack of energy

Anxiety and stress stop the digestive system getting the energy it needs which reduces its efficiency, including the ability to absorb nutrients to give you the energy you need. We all have a biochemical individuality that determines how we digest and absorb nutrients and stress and anxiety can affect that. So, you get stuck in a stress = reduced energy loop.  The less energy you have, the more stress you feel.

The stress hormone cortisol is also directly linked to abdominal obesity, so you are likely to put on weight and find it very hard to lose weight. This is another emotional/physical inter-connection loop that stops you feeling and looking the way you want to.

Here’s an example about anxiety and stress

A lady aged 28 came to see me.  She wanted more energy, but she was anxious, stressed and suffered with digestive issues. She had expert nutritional help which was key, but I also saw that the anxiety and stress were the root causes of her energy and digestive issues. Once I showed her tools to instantly manage and reduce the stresses and her cortisol levels, the combination of my emotional support and the nutritional guidance allowed her digestive system and nervous system got the energy it needed and she got the energy and calmness she’d wanted for years.

Her feedback to me said “Our sessions have been life-changing and I cannot thank you enough for helping me process parts of my life that had really been eating away at me and just causing me tiredness, anxiety and sadness. I said the words “I love and accept myself” – and I know you’ll know what a huge leap that is from where we started.” Emily, Hampton
